The Grand Witches Ball on September 12th in Exeter – a super event.

1506944_10205729182245738_4145991595242036067_nOrganised by Selkie Shell and Jackie Juno BUT with cast of truly wonderful supporters. As one Facebook comment stated…

A massive thank you to the Mysterious freakshow, fabulous set and to Kat Black, fantastic songs and performance, Emily Carding for a mesmerizing poetry set. Tracy Justhitsomething Austin for drumming beyond the call of duty. Phil Curtis for being such a trooper. Michelle Elliott and Jackie Juno for vision and attending to the details. And, to the unsung hero’s, the stewards who just helped and helped, lugged stuff, put things up, decorated the spaces and to Tom (sound) and Luke (lights) Wonderful focused people.

There witches and wizards galore – all looking spectacular in their witchy and wizardryness.

The event was raising money and awareness for Womankind Worldwide

The Goddess Tradition – Alive and Well in Cornwall

The Goddess Tradition – Alive and Well in Cornwall

The first Sunday in September has become designated as Word Goddess Day, a day during which the Goddess Traditions can be remembered and honoured.

This year Pengersick Castle once again hosted the Priestesses of Kernow in order to celebrate this world wide event.

Sue Edwards from Wadebridge, the current head of the Order of the Priestesses of Kernow and co-founder of the Cornwall School of Mystery and Magick, said that “Pengersick was such a magickal place to hold the event last year, we all wanted to come back again this year to celebrate the Goddess Tradition”

The Priestesses group was established in 2004 by Cheryl Straffon, Geraldine Andrews and Marj Rowland to support women in their personal and spiritual development. During the early years of the group twenty-one women were trained and ordained as Priestesses. In 2014 Marjorie Rowland handed over the leadership of the group to Sue Edwards.

“It was a real honour to be asked to continue and renew the work of this group” says Sue, “and this, our second World Goddess Day event, is not only a celebration of the Goddess in all her guises, but marks the evolution of the Priestesses of Kernow with a new training programme linked to the personal development of all women in Cornwall through the Priestesses and the newly created Sisterhood of Kernow”

2015dThe glorious weather on Sunday 6th and the superb settings of Pengersick Castle and Gardens, provided a wonderful backdrop to a range of celebratory activities. The over-arching theme was AIR, so there was lots of yellow; bubbles; kites and wind inspired imagery.
Selkie Shell, a visiting Priestess from Devon, ran a Bull-Roarer demonstration and workshop and gave generously of her time and talents.
The Kernow Priestesses offered face-painting, fairy workshops and story-telling for the young at heart; there was smoke readings and Elaine gave a talk on the Goddess Tanat.

“It’s great to see all these women coming together – working and sharing a common aim” said Sue Edwards.
The eventual goal of the group is to establish a physical space where women can be supported on their spiritual path and The Goddess Tradition can be celebrated.

“We were the only formal event in the UK to celebrate World Goddess Day this year, or at least the only one officially listed on the World Goddess website – and it’s nice to think that we are part of a world-wide web of women who are remembering the long history of the Goddess in tradition, folklore and myth.” Sue commented, and then added “we’re already planning next year’s event – so make sure it’s in your diary. Sunday 4th September 2016!!”

So it’s true…

The Goddess is alive and well in Cornwall and Magic is afoot
